What is Secure Mobile Connect?¶
[Update: May 13, 2019]
This page explains an overview and specifications for Secure Mobile Connect.
SAKURA Secure Mobile Connect (hereinafter, “Secure Mobile Connect”) is a service for safe communication from the customer device to SAKURA Cloud via a closed network which does not use the Internet.
*This service is only available for corporate customers.
This service makes it possible to connect SIM on the device and Switch on the cloud via a mobile gateway on SAKURA Cloud. In addition, you can specify settings for a mobile gateway and :doc:` SIM </mobile-connect/sim/index>` from the control panel on the cloud.
It is also possible to connect to the SAKURA Cloud switch. Therefore, it is also possible to connect to each service of SAKURA internet through Bridge connection and hybrid connection.
There are several structural patterns for connecting to Secure Mobile Connect and SAKURA Cloud.
1. Switch connection only¶
This structure connects data acquired on the device to a switch on a local network of SAKURA Cloud via a private interface of a mobile gateway from SIM.
2. Internet connection only¶
This structure connects with the Internet via a global interface beginning from the mobile gateway. Since a switch is not used, it is not possible to connect safely via local connection with a server, etc.
3. Connect to switch and Internet¶
A combination of 1 and 2. This structure also uses the Internet while connecting to the local network switch.
The following fees are incurred when using Secure Mobile Connect: mobile gateway fees, SIM basic fees, and data communication fees. Separate fees are also incurred for the switch which is the connection destination for the mobile gateway.
|Mobile gateway||Monthly fees||JPY 4,320 (including tax)|
|SIM basic fees||Monthly fees||JPY 12 (including tax)|
|Data communication fees||Usage-based fees||*Please refer to the unit price table for data communication fees shown below.|
It is also necessary to purchase a separate SIM (JPY 2,160/SIM (including tax).
Unit price table for data communication fees¶
|Carrier name||Unit price (JPY/MB)|
|SoftBank||JPY 6/MB (including tax)|
|KDDI||JPY 6/MB (including tax)|
|NTT DOCOMO||JPY 40/MB (including tax)|
- For SoftBank only, you can use 500MB of free communication capacity assigned to each mobile gateway.
- There are no differences in fees depending on categories such as LTE-M (Cat.M1). Use is possible according to the unit prices for data communication fees listed above.
Secure Mobile Connect has mobile gateway and SIM administration functions. Specifications for each function are listed below.
Mobile gateway is a dedicated network gateway for customers that use a closed network to connect mobile networks through SIM and the SAKURA Cloud network.
By connecting the mobile gateway to a switch (new or existing) and adding SIM settings, it becomes possible to communicate from the customer device to the SAKURA Cloud network. It also possesses a static route function as a simple router function. Therefore, in addition to network communication on the switch that is directly connected with the mobile gateway, it is also possible to communicate with other networks.
The following functions can be set for a mobile gateway.
- Interface settings
- Connects the switch to the interface on the private side of a mobile gateway.
- Static route settings
- Set the static route for a mobile gateway.
- SIM settings
- Add/delete SIM to a mobile gateway and specify the IP address for the SIM.
- SIM route settings
- Set the SIM route for a mobile gateway.
- Confirm the session log for the SIM affiliated with a mobile gateway.
- Confirm traffic for each interface of a mobile gateway.
- DNS server settings
- Set the IP address of the DNS server that can be referenced for the device into which the SIM affiliated with a mobile gateway is inserted.
- Internet connection settings
- Turn on (activate) or off (deactivate) connection with the Internet via a mobile gateway.
Specifications for a mobile gateway are listed below.
|Traffic transfer performance estimate||For Internet (global) 100Mbps
For private 500Mbps
*Provision via best effort
|Global side interface||The IP address is fixed. Communication with the global side is an IP masquerade.|
|Private side interface||There is one switch that can be connected.
*Only switch connection; router + switch connection is not possible.
|Behavior at the time of fault||At the time of fault, it restarts automatically via an automatic recovery program.
For details, please refer to How is operation performed when a fault occurs at the host server?.
*Recovery time estimate: Approx. 10 to 15 minutes (until startup of the appliance is complete)
The upper limit for the number of resources that can be created is listed below.
|Functions||Upper limit value|
|SIM||10,000 per mobile gateway|
|Static route||30 entries|
Upper limit for the number of resources that can be created for each mobile gateway.
If the IP address allocated to the SIM is the same as for the private network, there is the risk of an ARP storm occurring. Therefore, we recommend an upper limit of about 200 per mobile gateway.
There is also Upper limit creation number for each separate account in relation to SIM.
SIM administration function for Secure Mobile Connect. If SIM information is registered to SAKURA Cloud and SIM settings are added for connection to a mobile gateway, it becomes possible to communicate from the customer device to the SAKURA Cloud network.
The following functions can be set for SIM.
To use Secure Mobile Connect, first create a mobile gateway. Then, use interface settings to specify the connection destination switch and add SIM registration information. If necessary, specify settings (static route, etc.) for devices on the private network side and settings for connection to the Internet. For details, please refer to the following settings procedures.
When reselling this service, it may be necessary to report or register as a telecommunications business operator.
For details, please refer to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications homepage.
