Bridge connection

Overview

Bridge connection is a service for L2 connection of switches that exist in different regions or zones of SAKURA Cloud, or for L2 connection of local networks that were created at the `SAKURA dedicated server "<https://server.sakura.ad.jp/>`_ or `SAKURA VPS "<https://vps.sakura.ad.jp/>`_ (including for Windows Server).

Attention

When configuring settings for connecting with a SAKURA dedicated server or a SAKURA VPS local network, you must log in to the SAKURA Cloud control panel using the same member ID as the member ID used when entering into contracts for each service. If you want to connect services which were contracted using different member IDs, please consider using a Local router .

Comparison with other switch services

Usage procedures

Creation and setting are done by the following operations on the control panel.

Creating a bridge

Display the control panel screen of one of the zones where the switch you want have a bridge connection exists. (switching zones can be done on the zone selection menu on the upper left).

Select [Bridge Connection] in the menu on the left. On this screen, a list of already created bridges is displayed. To create a new one, click the [Add] button on the upper right.

The screen to create a new bridge will appear. Enter the [Name] and [Explanation] (both are arbitrary) and click the [Create] button on the bottom right.

Bridge connection to a switch

After creating a bridge, change the setting on the details screen of the switch to be used for bridge connection.

Select [Switch] in the menu on the left. The list of created switches will appear. Double-click the line of the switch to which you want to create a bridge connection.

As the details screen of the switch is displayed, click the [Bridge] tab at the top to open the bridge connection list screen. Because a new bridge connection is created here, click the [Connect] button on the bottom right.

The screen to select the bridge you want to connect to will appear. Select the bridge from the pop-up menu and click the [Connect] button.

Perform the same operation for all other switches for which you want to create a bridge connection.

On the details screen of bridge connection, click the [Dedicated Server Switch] tab and click the [Connect] button.

Select the switch to connect to from the displayed dialog and click the [Connect] button to connect.

On the details screen of bridge connection, click the [VPS Switch] tab and click the [Connect] button.

Select the switch to connect to from the displayed dialog and click the [Connect] button to connect.

Confirmation of bridge connection

As for the bridge connections that are already created, you can check the detailed information and change the name and explanation by double-clicking the row of the target bridge on the bridge connection list screen.

Disconnecting a switch

In order to delete a bridge or change the connection destination switch, you must first disconnect the switch that is currently connected. Click the [Switch] tab and then click the [Disconnect] button.

To disconnect a local switch for SAKURA VPS or a dedicated server, click the [×] icon on the right-hand side of the list.

Cautions

When using the bridge connection service, the following restrictions apply.

  • It is only possible to connect one bridge with one switch per zone. One bridge cannot be connected to multiple switches that exist in the same zone.
  • It is not possible to connect one switch to multiple bridges.
  • It is only possible to connect one of the following for a single switch: hybrid connection, bridge connection, or local router.
  • A bridge connection cannot be created for [Router + Switch]. A bridge connection is possible only for [Switch].
  • It is not possible to connect switches that are created with different accounts.
  • Up to 4 bridge connections can be created per account.
  • When canceling (deleting), it must be disconnected from all switches.
  • It is not possible to connect the bridge to switches which use External line connection service . Please apply separately for Hybrid connection.
